Known as a leader of the Art Nouveau and Aesthetic movements, Louis C. Tiffany (1848-1943) and his designers used his trademark favrile glass nature-inspired themes for extraordinary windows, mosaics, art glass décor, and most notably, lamps. Our Modgy draws inspiration from scarlet blooms that play across the surface of the Poppy Shade – one of the 132 Tiffany lamps in the collection at the New-York Historical Society. Designed by Clara Driscoll, Tiffany’s innovative manager of the Women’s Glass Cutting Department (the Tiffany Girls), it features her ingenious idea of incorporating a brass filigree overlay, giving intricate detail to the piece.
